Privacy Policy. This may include publications or other works of media produced by WAWWD for sale. If you do not want to grant to WAWWD the rights set out above, please do not submit your contribution to WAWWD.

    In addition:

    1. Where you are invited to submit any contribution to WAWWD (including any text or graphics) you warrant that your contribution:

Editorial Policy

General Principle

This document constitutes the Editorial Policy for the WAWWD website.

Specifically, this document refers to the content published by WAWWD on www.wearewhatwedo.org and does not relate to any comments published by the users of www.wearewhatwedo.org (e.g., user comments posted after articles).

This document also applies to content published by the organisation elsewhere, such as marketing information, electronic newsletters, and external publications.

In some cases, content sourced by the editorial team may not be considered suitable for publication on www.wearewhatwedo.org. In such cases, this document should be used as a guide to what is and what is not acceptable

Content is required to comply strictly with this guideline to ensure that nothing is published that may damage WAWWD, its interests or the interests of Community Links. It is therefore necessary to define the types and nature of suitable content; to ensure all members of the WAWWD team work from the same definitions; to ensure compliance in every aspect; and to ensure consistent application of this Editorial Policy.

If there are requirements to adapt the policy, a new and separate genre document can be developed.

Editorial Input

WAWWD's Editorial Staff reserve the right to discuss certain decisions based on this Editorial Policy. For example, this document would not allow specific and in depth discussions relating to racism, nor would it allow potentially racist comments to be published. However, certain articles may be based around, for example, certain current events or views of certain people that, in context, would allow such comments to be published. In such a case an adapted compliance policy would be developed.

WAWWD's Editorial Staff also carry the ultimate responsibility in publishing those comments. The articles in question will only go live if WAWWDs Director approves the articles.

Policy Overview

If in doubt:

Violence

  1. WAWWD does not allow comments that encourage violence
  2. WAWWD does not allow comments that sympathise with violence
  3. WAWWD allows reasonable comments, which mention violence in appropriate circumstances

Religion or Racism

Harassment

Hatred

  1. WAWWD does not allow an article to express genuine hatred or excessive negative feeling towards other groups or individuals
  2. Fair and reasonable hatred expressed towards policies or situations is allowed (in the instance of WAWWD rants)
  3. Debate is allowed without prejudice or nastiness

Libellous Statements

Editorial tone

Reporting vs. Opinion

WAWWD seeks to portray diverse views and opinions but des not endorse all the views whose material it publishes. When the core of content is purely personal opinion of the author and is intended to promote only one side of an argument, the content will be clearly labelled as opinion.

WAWWD as an organisation may adopt or facilitate a position, or become involved in a campaign, based on the process of agreement as upheld by the WAWWD management. Any such decisions will be made explicit.

Corrections Policy

When WAWWD recognises it has published false or misleading information, it will publish corrections on the WAWWD website with due prominence, and bring it to the attention of the originator of the material.

Right to Reply

WAWWD welcomes comment/feedback of all our content and alternative points of view.

Press Release Embargoes

WAWWD respects embargoes in all material issued to the press, to the extent that they are respected by other media.

Picture Policy

WAWWD takes care not to wilfully misrepresent the subjects and objects portrayed in the images used on its site. Captions and attributions should always be fair and accurate. Digital manipulation will only be used to enhance a photograph (i.e. to clarify, not change, its meaning).

When possible, individuals depicted should be named and placed in context.

Video Policy

As with still images, WAWWD will take care not to wilfully misrepresent the subjects and objects portrayed in the video used on its site. WAWWD will acquire written (online) consent and copyright agreement to broadcast video footage. Every video clip will be credited to the producer and source.

When several clips are presented as a coherent storyline, the authorship of the storyline will be clearly identified. As with still images, individuals depicted should be named and placed in context, where possible.

Audio Policy

WAWWD will take care that the subjects and objects portrayed in the audio used on its site are not wilfully misrepresented. WAWWD will acquire written (online) consent and copyright agreement to broadcast audio footage. Every audio clip will be credited to the producer and source.
