Action updated!
Long gone are the days when joining something meant socks and sandals in the local church hall or a feisty jostle for the last sticky orange quarter at half time. So join something. Anything. A team, a choir, a pack, a league, a union, even a queue is better than nothing.

i have joined this website today 02 November 2009, 17:48This site is for Australian women for action on sustainable behaviour.
http://www.1millionwomen.com.au
The rationale being that women make the consumer choices for households and therefore are the most capable of changing the family towards sustainable behaviour choices. This sort of idea has worked well in developing countries where women are the most responsible for health and finances. Now the idea is being employed for the West in regards to Climate Change. I love recycled ideas!
Enjoy :D 27 July 2009, 01:48

Who would have thought...
that by joining a local and very active website, www.harringayonline.com, that I would have ended up shaking hands with the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown at the Catalyst awards last week.

Second Chance
The 1st time I walked into the meeting of our school's Leo Club, I thought it was an absolute joke and ran as far as I could, without looking back. Then a couple of months ago, after 2 years of thinking the Lions and Leos of society were a big bunch of nerds and fake do-gooders, I decided to give Leos another try. How glad I am that I did! The Leos gives me and other teenagers a chance to make positive contributions to the community, which i really appreciate. i recommend to all high-school students to check out there schools Leo club, or start there own if there isnt one. 27 June 2008, 00:57
Act locally
It started when a lady came to the door with a petition and invited me to join a local community group. A few weeks later, I joined a website, www.harringayonline.com because of a guy I met at the meeting. A few weeks after that I signed up to be a community volunteer for my area because of something I read on the website. And a week or two after that, I joined the planning group for the local childrens centre because I was part of the community group.
This week, I met lots of my neighbours in the local pub and had a great time, next week I'm meeting some more to talk books. All because I joined something. 10 April 2008, 10:11
My life is unrecognisable from how it was 4 years
There's a simple little book, about a bored man who started a cult by accident. It was all very funny, and people who had joined his "accidental cult" now get together every so often to have a few drinks, hand things out to strangers and generally confuse and bewilder the people of London.
(It's called Join Me, by Danny Wallace by the way, good read. funny. Often lurks in te travel section of bookstores, even though it has little to do with travelling...)
I went to a meet up in London in 2004. A young man called John went as well. I thought he was skinny and nerdy and pale, but cute in a nervous bespectacled kind of way.
He didn't talk to me. He was painfully shy, and he thought I was with someone there, and I thought he was with someone there.
nearly a year later, I got very drunk, and posted on the join me forum how cute I thoght he was. He was slightly embarassed and confused at the attention, and he still didn't pluck up the courage to properly talk to me. Till Good Friday 2005, a great big annual meet up in his hometown of Nottingham. Alcohol, as is so often the case, stepped in. We chatted, we laughed, we joked, we danced.... we kissed.
3 years later, we've just bought a flat, I live the coolest city in the world (we have trams! yay!) I work for Nottingham City Council, I have a gorgeous nephew, and I have a whole new circle of friends and have been accepted into the best and most welcoming family (bar my own!) in the world. And I get to wake up every day next to the man I love. This fact still makes me smile! It's coming up to Good Friday again, then soon after that, our third anniversary. And I never would have met him (or any of the other wonderful friends I now have from all over the world) if it wasn't for a man called Danny Wallace being a bit bored one day...
Cheers Danny. I owe you a pint or something. ;) http://www.joineeforum.com or http://www.join-me.co.uk for more info. Tell them joinee Bing sent you. Oh, and you look lovely today, I really like those shoes.

Help your local community
Yesterday I joined a workshop to problem solve and discuss how we could combat crime and disorder in our town. The feedback was great and I feel that when people can respect their own local environment then they can start to respect the world they live in. As we know from this site small actions add up. 05 December 2007, 05:47I've been inspired to do two things this week...
The WAWWD list of actions inspired me to do two things this week that I am really excited about... firstly, I have enrolled in a ballroom dancing class (I LOVE Strictly Come Dancing!) AND (and I know this sounds dreary but it's not) I sent off to join my local Foundation Trust Hospital. Just reading those 100 actions really gets you thinking... 23 November 2007, 00:00
