Action #121

Stop junk mail

This action has been done 2,765 times which means 107.835 trees have lived to see another day.

How we did the maths

A pizza flyer? For me? You shouldn't have... No. I mean it. You really shouldn't have.

Every year 3.5 million trees are cut down to make the junk mail we get through our doors in the UK. Pizza flyers are ok, but they make lousy forests.

Use the iPhone instead to help reduce junk mail

Im a big fan of a site called http://www.lasoo.com.au that provides leading retail catalogues in digital format. I find it even easier to find all these great catalogues using my iPhone http://www.lasoo.com.au/lasoo-iphone-app.html 27 May 2010, 07:38

    No to junk mail

The Post Office don't really like you doing this but if enough of us said no to the endless junk mail it would no longer be a viable means of communication for companies. contact the mailing preference website and tell them that you do not wish to receive unsolicited mail. 08 April 2010, 08:52

    Being in the SEO business...

... I am prone and vulnerable to spam/junk mail. Electronic or physical mail smothers me. In my business, good thing the only mail we send out are emails and only if a client wishes to receive them. So in a way, I guess I am doing my part :)

    Junk mail sticker

I was looking for a less agressive door sticker that reflected the eco reasoning behind not getting all these free papers and flyers, this 'I love trees no junk mail' please fits perfectly. Would suggest adding more key words to make it come up better on google searches cause it's tricky to find and by fair the prettiest and least offensive on the market. Good work! :0) 26 January 2010, 17:27

    I hate Junk mail

I hate to get junk mail. I read an article that not only gets it out of my house, but costs the companies a second time. been doing these things for several years, get very little junk mail.

    1. Signed up for all do not mail lists.
    2. When i revieve mail, i black out my address and write "undeliverable return to sender"
    3. When i speak with my suppliers, ie phone company, other utilities. I ask to be removed from thier marketing.

    stopping catalogs

each time I get a catalog in the mail, I go on their website and send an email (I have a template I use) saying please remove me from the mailing list because, while I do a lot of mail order shopping, i do so exclusively from websites and consider paper catalogs to be nothing more than a nuisance and a significant waste of resources. I also ask them to flag the account, if possible, so that new orders will not generate more mailings.

this has cut down my catalogs from 1-2 / day to almost none.

    stopping my mum's junk mail

My mum, bless her, has had to go into a care home. While she was becoming more frail and visually impaired she was giving hundreds of pounds to charities and they were all sending her appeals and selling on her address because she never ticked those little boxes to say no! I've written to or emailed 58 charities to stop them sending her stuff, and some of them even wrote back to say thanks! I've also put her old address on to the mailing preference service (www.mpspnline.org.uk ) so that should stop loads of extra waste. I don't mean that charity appeals are junk, just that in this situation they were! 18 December 2008, 10:56
